Web 2.0 should not be a big surprise to librarians.
People come to libraries for learning, to explore and to interact. Exactly what web 2.0 is all about.
We might find it amazing that so many people have to sit around for hours on MySpace rather than exploring all the other avenues out there, but that is what the library is all about. Connecting up with others (through reading in the past) that share our interests and that we can hopefully learn something from.

More Feeds
Week 2 thing 6 Adding more feeds
I have found working in the computer labs and just in general helping on the floor that there are two tech blogs that help me keep up with current trends and things that I otherwise would not care about.
Engadget and Gizmodo
Both of these update many times during the day bringing in all sorts of ideas and things that are happening. I don't always find the topics to my interest but it helps keep me informed as to what is happening. I am not into computer gaming, but in the library we obviously have a large population that is. It is nice to have the basic info on most of the things that some customers are talking about.
I also find that reading the comments for the various posts helps to keep an open perspective on the writing by the editors of the blogs.
Then again, reading some of those posts I can be thankful I am not THAT much of a geek. At least I hope not.

Week 2 Thing 5
RSS Readers.
I have been using My Yahoo as my RSS agregator for a few years now. I like this over some of the other services becasue I also use other Yahoo services such as email, Flickr, and participate in the fantasy sports leagues there.
One thing that I dislike about Yahoo currently is the fact that they keep trying to 'update' without actually keeping previous content available. The big complaint for me right now is the calendar function. In the newest version of My Yahoo it does not display.
When using bloglines or other web based services you do not have to worry about such issues, but you also do not have all of your pieces together in one spot.

Yeah Right
Ok, now that the first post is out of the way, lets be honest.
This is my... hmmmm, 30th? 40th? blog?
I have been blogging in some form or another from 2000 and earlier. The first time I used Blogger was back in 2002, long before they were swallowed up by the Big G. It was a fun little thing, post my thoughts and have my friends post theirs.
We used Blogger to feed into my website, to try and give everyone more creativity and input into the design and particpate in the process. We recently switched over to a full wiki instead (which you will learn more about during this TLC process).
Glad you are participating here, as always feel free to grab me with any questions you have.
